CouplePay ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of the couples who use our app. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and optionally your first and last name. Authentication is handled by Clerk (clerk.com) using email verification codes — we never store your password.

Financial Planning Data

To provide debt payoff planning, we store the following on your behalf:

• Credit card names, balances, APRs, and minimum payments
• Card due dates
• Payoff strategy preferences (avalanche, snowball, or custom)
• Extra monthly payment amounts
• Payment log entries and activity history

This data is stored in our database (Convex) and is shared with your partner within your household. We do not share it with any third parties.

Usage Analytics

We use PostHog to collect anonymous usage analytics to help us improve the app. This includes screens viewed, features used, and error events. No financial data is included in analytics events. You can contact us to opt out.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

• Provide and improve the CouplePay debt payoff service
• Calculate and display debt-free projections
• Share your household's payoff plan with your partner
• Send email verification codes for authentication
• Diagnose technical issues and improve reliability

Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or financial data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. Your data is only shared with:

• Your partner, within your shared CouplePay household
• Clerk, for authentication (email only)
• Convex, as our database provider (encrypted at rest)
• PostHog, for anonymous analytics only

Data Retention and Deletion

Your data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete your data at any time:

• Go to Settings and tap "Leave Couple"
• If you are the last member of your household, all household data (debts, payments, activity history) is permanently deleted
• Your account record is removed from our systems within 30 days

Data Security

Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device using platform-native secure storage. We use industry-standard cloud infrastructure with regular security reviews.

Children's Privacy

CouplePay is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights including:

• Access to the personal data we hold about you
• Correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion of your data (see Data Retention above)
• Portability of your data in a machine-readable format

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of CouplePay after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
